Fibrotic Diseases of the Human Urinary and Genital Tract: Current Understanding and Potential Strategies for Treatment

Fibrosis is a disease condition characterized by abnormalities of the extracellular matrix, such as accumulation transforming growth factor β, infiltration myofibroblasts, deposition collagen, and generalized dysregulation collagen maturation. It can severely impair function organs replacing normal tissue with highly collagenized thereby reducing elasticity compliance tissues. Fibrotic diseases genitourinary tract present relevant problems in healthcare, their principles pathophysiology remain unclarified; hence, armamentarium for prevention treatment limited. These include renal fibrosis, Peyronie’s ureteral urethral strictures due to perturbations process wound healing response injuries. Such deteriorations may contribute obstructive uropathies or sexual dysfunction. This review provides brief overview most frequent fibrotic system how related symptoms, also highlights potential therapeutic strategies address abnormal collagen. Although understanding factors associated conditions urinary genital still limited, some beneficial advances have been made. Further research will serve provide more comprehensive insight into responsible development deposition.
